| Hi everyone
Well, our man "Toolman" has been working on this one for a while and we finally have it arranged. He has organised a private viewing of the Mad Butchers new sports memorabilia museum at Manurewa. (see below) It is on Sunday 2nd October We will all meet at the Autobahn (off southern motorway by Papakura) between 9.30 and 10.00 with the object of getting away at 10.00 or just after. Entry to the museum for this private viewing will be a donation of $5 per head and we will need a good couple of hours to look around ... after that we will head off on one of Toolman's rambling runs to who knows where. This will be a great day out especially with the fact that the Warriors are doing so well at present, let's hope they, and of course The All Blacks can go all the way and take out the ultimate prizes in their respective games.
See you all there on the 2nd.
Sam
Sir Peter Leitch's name is synonymous with sport in New Zealand. The Bucklands Beach resident – best known as the Mad Butcher – is a big fan, especially when it comes to rugby league. He has collected a huge amount of memorabilia which is now on show at the Sir Peter Charles Leitch Sports Museum in Manurewa. Sir Peter hopes it will entertain generations of visitors. "Its contents will be left to the people of New Zealand, and that makes it unique." The collection started in a shed but grew too large and was moved into a container. Sir Peter started looking for a more permanent location two years ago. The collection has now found its home in a Manurewa factory and Sir Peter can finally share it with the public. It is not limited to league memorabilia and features collectables such as signed jerseys and trophies from a range of different sports. Some items were bought at charity events while others, such as the signed All Blacks jersey he received after his knighthood, were gifts. The eclectic collection is vast but Sir Peter says there is no one piece that sticks out – they are all special. He credits friends and volunteers for bringing it together and says he is always keen for more people to muck in and help. Some famous faces have already lent a hand, including former Warriors' player and current All Black Jimmy Cowan. Sir Peter hopes that with continued support the museum will increase its opening hours. It is at 23 Holmes Rd, Manurewa, and opens on Saturdays 9am to noon. Go online to www.sirpetersmuseum.co.nz

| This sounds like a great day out. We would have loved to participate in this one Sam but unfortunately Karting is already locked and loaded. Have a great day to all that go. |
